RCMP Announces Harassment Claims Settlement
On October 6, 2016, in Ottawa, RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson issues a formal apology as he announces the settlement of lawsuits related to the sexual harassment of RCMP officers. The RCMP was facing two class-action lawsuits related to the harassment claims, which involved hundreds of current and former female officers. Retired Supreme Court justice Michel Bastarache will oversee the settlement process. Lead plaintiffs Janet Merlo and Linda Gillis Davidson, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale, and Employment Minister MaryAnn Mihychuk are also in attendance at the announcement.
