NDP MP Daniel Blaikie Calls for Protection of Pensions for Nuclear Workers
NDP MP Daniel Blaikie and union members hold a news conference calling on the federal government to protect the public service pension plans of Canadian nuclear workers. The previous Conservative government under Stephen Harper decided to privatize Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) as part of a restructuring of the Crown corporation. Over 3,000 Canadian nuclear workers will be unable to contribute to their public service pension plans this fall, following a three-year transitional period. Debi Daviau (president, Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada), Jonathan Fitzpatrick (president, Chalk River Professional Employees Group) and Steve Schumann (co-chair, Canadian Alliance of Nuclear Workers) also speak with reporters.
