Govt Urged to Halt Deportation of Russian Scientist Elena Musikhina
On Parliament Hill, Russian scientist Elena Musikhina, Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, former Liberal MP David Kilgour, Ben Rogers (deputy chair of the U.K. Conservative Party Human Rights Commission), and Father Ihor Okhrimtchouk (priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ottawa) press the federal government to intervene in Musikhina's asylum case. The asylum bids of Musikhina and her husband Mikhail have been denied and their deportation date will be scheduled on November 6, 2018. Musikhina has collected information about the environmental risks of industrial projects in Siberia. She is also a vocal critic of Vladimir Putin's government. She says she and her husband, who have lived in Canada since December 2015, face grave danger if they return to Russia. (October 30, 2018) (no interpretation)
