In Committee from the Senate of Canada
Legal and Constitutional Affairs - May 11, 2017
The committee continues its study of Bill C-16. The government's legislation would amend the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code to provide legal and human rights protection to transgender and other gender-diverse people. Marni Panas (diversity and inclusion consultant) and Devon MacFarlane (director of Rainbow Health Ontario at the Sherbourne Health Centre) express their support of the bill during the first panel. Senators then hear from Canadian Bar Association representatives Marie Laure Leclercq and Siobhan O'Brien; Greta Bauer (associate professor and graduate chair, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, University of Western Ontario); and barrister N. Nicole Nussbaum. (May 11, 2017) UPDATE: Bill C-16 received royal assent on June 19.
