The committee holds a special hearing on the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar. Hundreds of thousands of the Muslim minority group have fled to neighbouring Bangladesh amid Myanmar's military crackdown. The committee meeting comes one day after the House of Commons' emergency debate on Myanmar. Senators hear from Anwar Arkani (president, Rohingya Association of Canada); Ahmed Ramadan (outreach coordinator, Justice for All – Burmese Task Force); Mizanur Rahman (Bangladesh High Commissioner to Canada); Nayem Uddin Ahmed (minister, High Commission for Bangladesh to Canada); Alex Neve (Secretary General, Amnesty International Canada); Farida Deif (Canada director, Human Rights Watch); and Kevin Malseed (program director, Burma, Inter Pares).
