In Committee from the House of Commons
Finance - September 29, 2014
The committee begins its annual pre-budget consultations, where Canadians are invited to share their priorities for the federal budget. The finance minister takes these suggestions, as well as the committee's recommendations, into consideration in the development of the 2015 budget. The Committee is expected to table its report on these pre-budget consultations in the House of Commons in December 2014. MPs hear from the following witnesses during the first part of the meeting: Gregory Thomas (Canadian Taxpayers Federation), Sean Speer (Fraser Institute), Philip Cross (Macdonald-Laurier Institute), Gary Oberg (National Association of Federal Retirees), and former parliamentary budget officer Kevin Page, who is now a research chair at the University of Ottawa. The committee then hears from Brian Kingston (Canadian Council of Chief Executives), Paul Moist (Canadian Union of Public Employees), Glen Hodgson (Conference Board of Canada), Peter Holle (Frontier Centre for Public Policy), and Veterans Ombudsman Guy Parent during the second panel.
