History and Evolution of the Court




The first episode of Inside the Supreme Court of Canada - 150 Years of the Highest Court traces the Court's evolution from its creation in 1875 to the present day. Former justices, legal scholars and historians discuss the difficulties the early Court faced, and its path to becoming the highest court in the land.

This episode also examines the leadership and decisions that shaped the Court, including the most significant change, the transformative impact of the patriation of the Constitution and the adoption of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in 1982.
