New Brunswick Leaders' French-Language Debate – September 9, 2020
New Brunswick political party leaders Blaine Higgs (Progressive Conservative), Kevin Vickers (Liberal Party), Kris Austin (People’s Alliance), David Coon (Green Party), and Mackenzie Thomason (NDP) take part in an French-language debate ahead of the September 14 provincial election. Radio Canada hosts the 90-minute debate. New Brunswick is the first province to hold a general election amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Higgs called a snap election on August 17 after failing to secure an agreement as premier with the opposition parties that aimed to avoid an election. He was seeking to keep his minority government in power until the fall of 2022, or until public health authorities declared the pandemic was over.
