COVID-19: Montreal Mayor Declares a State of Emergency – December 21, 2021
In a virtual news conference, Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante provides an update on COVID-19 and declares a state of emergency in the metropolitan region. She is joined by Dominique Ollivier, chair of the Executive Committee for the City of Montreal; Serge Lamontagne, the city’s director general; as well as Richard Liebmann, Fire Department chief and Civil Security co-ordinator for the Montreal agglomeration. Montreal’s first state of emergency in response to the pandemic was declared in March 2020 during the first wave of the coronavirus disease. This measure authorizes human and material resource mobilization without a prior bidding process. Plante herself is currently in isolation since she announced on December 18 that she had tested positive for COVID-19. (no interpretation)
