On June 28 2010, in Halifax, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are welcomed to Canada at the start of their Royal Visit. Over nine days in June and July, the Queen and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, visit cities in Nova Scotia, Winnipeg, and Ontario. This is the Queen’s 22nd royal visit since her accession to the throne in 1952. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Canadian Governor General Michaëlle Jean, and Nova Scotia Premier Darrell Dexter make speeches, and the Queen makes brief remarks. The welcoming ceremony also includes musical performances and a Mi’kmaq cultural event.
