COVID-19: Canada Responds
PM Trudeau on COVID-19 Aid for Municipalities; Anti-Black Racism Protests
Speaking from outside his home in Ottawa, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discusses the federal government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including $2.2 billion in accelerated infrastructure funding to help municipalities. The full 2020–21 federal gas tax amount will be delivered to municipal governments as a single payment in June in an effort to offset the economic impact of the coronavirus disease. The funding is normally paid out in annual two installments. The prime minister also discusses ongoing anti-racism protests in the United States and Canada following the death of George Floyd. The black man died on May 25 after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee onto Floyd's neck during an arrest. (June 1, 2020)
