COVID-19: Canada Responds
PM Trudeau Provides COVID-19 Update, Apologizes for Role in WE Charity Decision
Speaking from outside his home in Ottawa, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discusses the federal government's response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic, including an extension of the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy until December. The prime minister also apologizes for not recusing himself from cabinet discussions that awarded a now-cancelled contract to WE Charity to administer a $900-million federal grants program for student volunteers. The apology comes after recent revelations that the prime minister’s mother and brother had been paid for speaking engagements at events hosted by WE Charity. (July 13, 2020)
