COVID-19: Canada Responds
Federal Government to Offer Residency to Asylum Seekers Working in Health Care
At a news conference in Montreal, Marco Mendicino, the federal minister of immigration, refugees and citizenship, announces that the federal government intends to offer permanent residency to some asylum seekers who were employed as front-line health-care workers during the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. The minister is joined by Soraya Martinez Ferrada, his parliamentary secretary, Emmanuel Dubourg, the member of Parliament for the riding of Bourassa, and Marc Miller, the member of Parliament for Ville-Marie—Le Sud-Ouest—Île-des-Sœurs.
