COVID-19: Canada Responds
Federal Modelling Forecasts 12,000 COVID-19 Daily Cases in January
In Ottawa, federal ministers Patty Hajdu (health), Marc Miller (Indigenous services) and Dominic Leblanc (intergovernmental affairs), as well as Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, Dr. Howard Njoo, deputy chief public health officer, and Dr. Tom Wong, chief medical officer of public health for Indigenous Services Canada, provide an update on the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. They also hold a technical briefing to discuss the most recent federal modelling data concerning the possible impact of COVID-19 in Canada. According to these projections, Canada could see 12,000 daily cases at the start of January with increasing hospitalizations and deaths following this rise, unless significant reductions in contact rates are achieved.
