COVID-19: Canada Responds
PM Trudeau on Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit, COVID-19 Vaccines, Travels
Speaking to Canadians from outside his home, in Ottawa, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discusses the federal government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. He announces that the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB) will be modified to prevent people who traveled for non essential purposes from accessing it. The current version of the CRSB allows some of these travellers to receive $1,000 during the self-isolation period following their return to the country. The prime minister comments on the slow COVID-19 vaccine rollout and reiterates that the goal remains to vaccinate all Canadians who wish to be vaccinated, by September. Trudeau also answers questions regarding two Liberal MPs who travelled abroad during the holidays. (January 5, 2020)
