COVID-19: Canada Responds
Ontario Health Minister Announces New 9-1-1 Models of Care
Christine Elliott, the deputy premier of Ontario and minister of health, holds a virtual news conference to announce the province is introducing a new pilot project for 9-1-1 models of care in York region and over 30 other municipalities in Ontario. These new models will ensure paramedics have more options to treat palliative care, mental health and addictions patients without taking them to hospital emergency rooms, many of which are overcrowded from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Minister Elliott also takes questions about her government’s response to the pandemic. Joining her for the news conference are Caroline Mulroney (MPP for York--Simcoe), Wayne Emmerson (chair and CEO of the Regional Municipality of York), Lisa Gonsalves (York Region general manager, paramedic and seniors services), and Chris Spearen (chief of York Region Paramedic Services).
