Quebec Outlines Vaccination Plan for Youth – May 20, 2021
At a press conference in Montreal, Christian Dubé, Quebec’s minister of health and social services, outlines the province's plan for vaccinating youth ages 12 to 17 against COVID-19. He joined by Jean-François Roberge, the provincial minister of education, Danielle McCann, the minister of higher education, and Daniel Paré, director of Quebec’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign. Youth can start booking appointments on May 21 at family drive-through sites in Montreal. Bookings for appointments at clinics will begin on May 25 and the vaccination campaign will run until June 23. Youth under 14 will need a consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Appointments will also be offered in the evenings and weekends. Vaccination will be organized in collaboration with schools from June 7 to 18. Administration of first doses will continue throughout the summer for those who were unable to get vaccinated before June 23. The province is aiming to vaccinate all youth with first doses by the end of summer and before the start of the next school year. Health Canada authorized the use of the Pfizer vaccine in youth 12 to 17 on May 5. On May 18, the Committee on Immunization of Quebec (CIQ) authorized the use of the Pfizer vaccine for that age group. (no interpretation)
