COVID-19: Canada Responds
Manitoba Starting Step One of Reopening Plan Ahead of Schedule – June 23, 2021
In Winnipeg, Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister and Dr. Brent Roussin, Manitoba’s chief public health officer, provide an update on the provincial government’s plan to gradually lift public-health restrictions that are in place due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. They announce that the province will enter the first step of its reopening plan at 12:01 a.m. on June 26, ahead of its original July 1 target date. Manitoba's reopening plan is tied to vaccination rates, and the province has surpassed its first goal, with over 71 per cent of eligible Manitobans having received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and more than 27 per cent having received both doses. Increased private and public outdoor gathering sizes, raising capacity limits for retail businesses, and allowing personal service businesses such as hair salons to reopen with appointments are among the changes.
