PM Trudeau on Prorogation of Parliament, Freeland’s Move to Finance
At a news conference on Parliament Hill, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announces that has requested a prorogation of Parliament in anticipation of a speech from the throne to be delivered on September 23, 2020. The prime minister is joined by ministers Chrystia Freeland and Dominic LeBlanc, who have assumed new ministerial duties in the wake of the resignation of Finance Minister Bill Morneau. Freeland takes over at finance while retaining her position as deputy prime minister; she becomes the first woman in Canada to hold the federal finance portfolio.
