Hassan Diab Discusses His Legal Action Against Federal Govt Over Extradition
Sociology professor Hassan Diab provides an update on the legal action he is taking against the federal government over his extradition to France on terrorism allegations. He is joined by his lawyer Guy Pratte. Diab filed a notice of action in January with the Ontario Superior Court seeking $90 million in damages including malicious prosecution, abuse of process, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The university professor, who is a Canadian citizen, was extradited to France in 2014 over his alleged involvement in a deadly 1980 Paris bombing. In January 2018, he was released from a French prison after judges dismissed all charges against him. He has called for an inquiry into his extradition, as well as changes to Canada's extradition law. (February 7, 2020) (no interpretation)
