Health Minister Patty Hajdu and B.C. Counterpart Provide Update on Coronavirus
Federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu, her British Columbia counterpart Adrian Dix and Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart hold a news conference in Vancouver following their roundtable with members of the Chinese-Canadian community. Minister Hajdu is also scheduled to meet with Vancouver's chief medical health officer and with Public Health Agency of Canada staff to discuss ongoing efforts to detect and limit the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The coronavirus outbreak originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late December 2019. It has been declared a global public health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO), with tens of thousands of cases confirmed in China and worldwide. Seven cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Canada: four in British Columbia and three in Ontario. B.C. has reported a fifth case and the presumptive positive samples have been sent to the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg for confirmation.
