Prime Minister, Opposition Leaders Make Statements on Rail Blockades
In the House of Commons, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and leaders of the opposition parties make statements concerning ongoing blockades of transportation facilities that have been mounted across Canada in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en Nation. Blockades have brought a halt to passenger and freight rail traffic in a number of locations nationwide. At the centre of the dispute is the Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs’ opposition to the construction of the Coastal GasLink pipeline that crosses their traditional territory in northern B.C.
