(Public affairs) Environment Minister Jonathan Wilkinson holds a virtual news conference to discuss Canada's new climate target to reduce emissions by 40 to 45 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the announcement at the virtual Leaders Summit on Climate hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden. Wilkinson is joined by Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault. Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole holds a news conference in Ottawa, where he calls on the federal government to temporarily suspend international flights arriving from “hotspot” countries such as India and Brazil in order to control the rapid spread of COVID-19 variants in Canada.
