Ontario Imposes New Measures, Moves Schools Online – January 3, 2022
Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces new measures amid a surge of COVID-19 cases and the spread of the Omicron variant in the province. All publicly funded and private schools will move to remote learning starting January 5 until at least January 17. Other measures include reducing capacity limits for businesses, closing indoor dining at restaurants, and shutting down gyms and cinemas. These measures will be in place effective January 5 at 12:01 a.m. for at least 21 days until January 26. The province is also pausing non-urgent surgeries and procedures. The premier is joined at the news conference at Queen’s Park by provincial cabinet ministers Christine Elliott (health) and Peter Bethlenfalvy (finance), as well as Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario's chief medical officer of health, and Matt Anderson, the CEO of Ontario Health.
