Federal Officials Release Updated COVID-19 Modelling – June 25, 2021
In a virtual news conference, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, and Dr. Howard Njoo, the deputy chief public health officer, hold a technical briefing to discuss the most recent federal modelling data concerning the possible impact of COVID-19 in Canada. They are joined by Brigadier-General Krista Brodie, the vice-president of logistics and operations at the Public Health Agency of Canada and head of the country's vaccine distribution efforts, and Joelle Paquette, director general responsible for vaccine procurement at Public Services and Procurement Canada. Dr. Tam warns that the Delta variant could become the dominant strain of the coronavirus in the country, which could result in a higher than expected resurgence of cases in the fall. She says that maintaining public-health measures until more people get vaccinated could help avoid this scenario. Tam also faces questions concerning the awaited launch of a risk-assessment tool for fully vaccinated people.
