At a Toronto news conference, Stephen Lecce, Ontario’s minister of education, announces that the government will introduce a new science and technology curriculum for grades 1 to 8 students in the 2022-2023 school year. The new curriculum will include coding, STEM learning, skilled trades, and food literacy. Minister Lecce also announces that the province will de-stream the Grade 9 science course. He is joined by MPP Daryl Kramp (Hastings – Lennox and Addington), Paul Kortenarr (CEO of the Ontario Science Centre), Ian Howcroft (CEO of Skills Ontario), and Arti Javeri (vice-president of partnerships at First Robotics Canada). Minister Lecce takes questions on lifting masking requirements in schools, training resources for teachers, and negotiations with the federal government to reach a funding agreement for child care in the province.
