Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announces $800 million in funding over eight years to partner with Siemens Healthineers and the Alberta Cancer Foundation to improve cancer care outcomes. The investment will update oncology treatment equipment, create two new cancer care centres, and create a fund to attract and retain global talent in the province.

She is joined at the news conference in Calgary by Adriana LaGrange (health minister), Arthur Kaindl (head of Varian, Siemens Healthineers), Tom Valentine (board chair, Alberta Cancer Foundation), and Brenda Hubley (chief program officer, Cancer Care Alberta).

The premier faces questions from reporters on Alberta Health Services CEO Athana Mentzelopoulos’ $1.7-million lawsuit alleging wrongful dismissal. Smith also comments on Alberta’s relationship with the federal government and if a Team Canada approach is possible in the face of U.S. tariff threats. (no interpretation)
