Chrystia Freeland on U.S. Tariff Threat, Support for Ukraine – March 3, 2025

Liberal leadership candidate Chrystia Freeland holds a news conference at the Stelco steel factory in Hamilton, Ont. The Canadian steel industry would be severely impacted by the imposition of 25 per cent U.S. import tariffs, which U.S. President Donald Trump has said may now come into effect on March 4.

Freeland faces questions from reporters on Canada’s response to the impending tariffs. She also voices her support for Ukraine following Friday’s heated exchange in the Oval Office between U.S. President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
