Federal Govt Bans Open-Net Salmon Farms in B.C. – June 19, 2024

In Ottawa, Fisheries Minister Diane Lebouthillier announces a ban on open-net salmon farms in British Columbia by June 2029. The federal government will release a draft transition plan by the end of July, and will also renew salmon aquaculture licenses for five years. Fish farm licences in the province are set to expire on June 30, 2024. The minister is joined by MPs Taleeb Noormohamed (Vancouver Granville) and Wilson Miao (Richmond Centre).
