Government Briefing on Situation in Israel and Palestine – October 15, 2023

In Ottawa, Global Affairs officials Alexandre Lévêque (assistant deputy minister for Europe, Arctic, Middle East and Maghreb) and Julie Sunday (assistant deputy minister, consular, security, and emergency management) hold a technical briefing to provide an update on the evolving situation in Israel, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. They are joined by vice-admiral Bob Auchterlonie, commander of the Canadian Joint Operations Command.

The speakers confirm the death of a fifth Canadian citizen in Israel after a series of attacks by Hamas on October 7, with three other Canadians still missing. The federal government is still working to secure safe passage out of Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank for Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
