Govt to Appeal Federal Court Ruling on Emergencies Act Use

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc and Justice Minister Arif Virani announce that the government will appeal a Federal Court ruling that found the February 2022 invocation of the Emergencies Act to be unreasonable and led to an infringement of Charter rights. The case was brought forward by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, the Canadian Constitution Foundation, as well as other individuals. (January 23, 2024) (no interpretation)
