Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces a $9-million investment in the recent provincial budget to fund York University’s new medical school in Vaughan. Premier Ford is joined at the press conference by provincial ministers Stephen Lecce (education), Jill Dunlop (colleges and universities) and Sylvia Jones (health), as well as Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca, Mackenzie Health CEO Altaf Stationwala, and York University President Rhonda Lenton. The school will be the first in Canada to focus on training primary care doctors and is expected to begin classes in September 2028. At full capacity, the school will include seats for up to 240 undergraduate and 293 postgraduate students. (April 3, 2024) (no interpretation)
