In Dartmouth, N.S., Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announces housing measures from the upcoming federal budget, including a new $6-billion fund to speed up the construction and upgrading of housing infrastructure. Provinces have until January 1, 2025 to secure an agreement with the federal government, while territories will have until April 1, 2025.

The government will also top up the Housing Accelerator Fund with an additional $400 million. The prime minister also announces municipalities will be required to take action to directly unlock housing supply if they want to access the federal government's forthcoming public transit fund. Federal Housing Minister Sean Fraser, Halifax Mayor Mike Savage, and Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia representatives Michael Kabalen and Adriane Salah also take part in the news conference.

The prime minister responds to questions about the recent incident between Mi’kmaw fishers in the province and officers from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. He is also asked about the Israeli airstrike that killed seven international aid workers, including a dual Canadian-American citizen, in Gaza.
