PM Trudeau Announces Deployment of More Military Personnel to Latvia
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau holds a joint news conference with his Latvian counterpart Krisjanis Kari?s following their bilateral meeting on Parliament Hill. They discuss Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as well as security issues in the Baltic region, and Trudeau announces that Canada will deploy a general and six staff officers to NATO’s Multinational Division North Headquarters in Adazi, Latvia. Responding to questions from reporters, he also comments on reports that Afghans who assisted Canada’s mission in Afghanistan are facing torture from the Taliban while waiting to be resettled in Canada, as well as Conservative leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre’s vow to fire Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem.
