Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announces a housing initiative as part of his series of pre-budget announcements across the country. The federal government will launch a $1.5 billion rental protection fund aimed at helping non-profit organizations and other partners acquire rental units and preserve rent prices. The fund will provide $1 billion in loans and $470 million in contributions . The prime minister is joined in Winnipeg by federal ministers Sean Fraser (housing) and Dan Vandal (Prairies Economic Development Canada), as well as Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew and Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham.

Trudeau faces questions on a range of issues including the recent Israeli airstrike that killed seven international aid workers in Gaza, Manitoba's push for an exemption from the federal carbon price, and a declassified CSIS intelligence summary that was made public at the inquiry into foreign interference.
