Quebec Premier François Legault Provides Wildfire Update – June 7, 2023
Quebec Premier François Legault addresses journalists and provides an update on the uncontrollable forest fires in the province, particularly in the regions of Abitibi and Côte-Nord. Following the overnight evacuation of the city of Chibougamau, he states that the Cree community of Mistissini may also be evacuated in the coming hours due to the advancing wildfire. So far, the villages of Chapais and Clova remain untouched and have not been affected by the fires. He has also acknowledged that Quebec could be facing a concerning situation due to a shortage of pilots for the CL-215 and CL-415 firefighting aircraft. Accompanying him are provincial ministers François Bonnardel (public security) and Maïté Blanchette-Vézina (natural resources and forests). (no interpretation)
