Senator McPhedran Discusses Bill to Limit Use of NDAs – May 9, 2023
Senator Marilou McPhedran holds a news conference on Parliament Hill following the tabling of her bill, the Can’t Buy My Silence Act. The proposed legislation would ban the use of federal funds to pay for settlements that include non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). It would also require federally funded, non-government agencies such as Hockey Canada to report to the president of the Treasury Board on their use of NDAs.
Senator McPhedran is joined by Julie MacFarlane (co-founder of the organization Can’t Buy My Silence), Kim Shore (co-founder of Gymnasts for Change), Robin Browne (co-founder of 613-819 Black Hub), and Jo-Anne Stark (a lawyer who moved a successful resolution at the Canadian Bar Association to end the misuse of NDAs).
