Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference – March 27, 2024
The Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference in Federal Electoral Processes and Democratic Institutions continues its hearings in Ottawa. Led by Quebec judge Marie-Josée Hogue, the commission will examine allegations of foreign interference by China, Russia and other foreign states in the 2019 and 2021 Canadian federal elections.
Representatives from several diaspora groups in Canada share their experiences with intimidation from foreign states. The inquiry hears from Hamed Esmaeilion (Canadian-Iranian human rights activist and former president of the Association of Families of Flight PS752 Victims), Grace Dai Wollensak (representative from the Falun Dafa Association of Canada), Mehmet Tohti (human rights activist at the Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project), and Yuriy Novodvorskiy (representative from the Russian Canadian Democratic Alliance).
