The Federal Election and Canada's Arctic Policy: What's Next?

A panel of experts on Canadian Arctic policy gather at the University of Ottawa to discuss what the outcome of the 2019 federal election means for the future of the country’s Arctic region.

Heather Nichol (director, School for the Study of Canada at Trent University), Jennifer Spence (instructor, Northern Studies program at Carleton University) and Catherine MacQuarrie (deputy secretary of federal engagement, Department of Executive and Indigenous Affairs, government of the Northwest Territories), talk about Canada's Arctic and Northern Policy Framework, which was launched on September 10, one day before the start of the federal election campaign. They also discuss how the Arctic was addressed during the campaign and what the priorities should be moving forward.
