Whitby
CPAC’s Laura DiBattista reports on the race in Whitby, Ontario, the one-time seat of former Harper finance minister Jim Flaherty. In 2015, the riding switched to Liberal red and elected Celina Caesar-Chavannes, a promising star for the party until this spring when she had a fallout with the leader, resigned from the party and decided not to run as an independent. The Liberal candidate this time is Ryan Turnbull, an entrepreneur and founder of Eco-Ethonomics. The Conservative Todd McCarthy is a trial lawyer and law professor at Queen’s. Brian Dias, the New Democrat, works at Fiat Chrysler’s Etobicoke plant and is active with Unifor Local 1459. The retired anestheologist at Oshawa’s Lakeridge Health, Dr. Paul Slavchenko, is the Green candidate.
