New Brunswick Reports Its First COVID-19 Death – June 4, 2020
In Fredericton, Dr. Jennifer Russell, New Brunswick's chief medical officer of health, and Premier Blaine Higgs provide an update on the province's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.. The province has reported its first death related to the coronavirus disease, an elderly individual in the Campbellton region. One new case has also been identified in the ongoing outbreak in that region, bringing to 15 the total number of active cases associated with that cluster. The Campbellton outbreak has been traced back to a health-care worker who contracted the virus in Quebec and did not self-isolate for 14 days upon his return to New Brunswick. The newly confirmed case involves a health-care worker at a long-term care facility in the community of Atholville. The premier also announces that all areas of New Brunswick outside of Campbellton will move to the next phase of its recovery plan on June 5. That phase was originally scheduled to begin on May 29 but was postponed due to the Campbellton outbreak. Effective June 19, indoor visits with one visitor at a time for residents of long-term care facilities will also be permitted. (no interpretation)
