WE Charity Scandal: New Angle of Investigation into the Controversy
Official Languages - August 12, 2020: Opposition members are requesting a study into the government’s decision to award a unilingual anglophone organization, the WE Charity Foundation, with a contract to administer a federal grants program for student volunteers. The WE Charity organization backed away from the $900-million sole-sourced contract after personal connections between the organization, the prime minister and finance minister came to light. Media reports say that the WE Charity organization had to hire a PR firm to handle the French-language aspects of administering program.
