Citizenship Oath: Minister Marco Mendicino & Indigenous Leaders
Indigenous and Northern Affairs - January 28, 2021: Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino and Indigenous leaders discuss Bill C-8, an act to amend the Citizenship Act. Bill C-8 would revise the oath to recognize and affirm Indigenous and treaty rights, as recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in its 2015 final report. Also speaking to the committee are Marie Wilson, former commissioner for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada; Cynthia Wesley-Esquimaux, chair at the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation; and Natan Obed, president for Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami.
