Conservatives Push Government to End Gay Blood Donation Ban – June 1, 2021
At a press conference on Parliament Hill, Conservative MP Eric Duncan marks the start of Pride Month by calling on the federal government to keep a promise from the 2015 election campaign to end the ban on blood donations by gay and bisexual men. Currently any man who has a sexual encounter with another man must wait three months to donate blood. Duncan, who is the first openly gay Conservative MP, says the policy stigmatizes and discriminates against the LBGTQ2+ community. He is joined by his caucus colleagues Michelle Rempel Garner and Bernard Généreux. Conservatives have sent a draft order to federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu to begin the process of ending the ban.
