Interim Parliamentary Budget Officer Jason Jacques briefs the committee for the first time in his new role. He tells MPs the deficit will “absolutely be higher” than previous forecasts and says his office does not know whether the government has committed to any fiscal anchors. Jacques adds that the PBO will publish an economic and fiscal baseline next week, including a five-year deficit track.
