Environment and Sustainable Development: April 14, 2021:

Liberal MP Lenore Zann briefs the committee on Bill C-230, her private member's bill requiring the government to develop a national strategy to redress the harm caused by environmental racism.

The bill requires the federal government to collect statistical information on the location of environmental hazards and to identify the links between race, socioeconomic status and health outcomes. It also recommends that affected communities are compensated and involved in future environmental policymaking.

Appearing from the Department of the Environment are Laura Farquharson, director general, legislative and regulatory affairs; Silke Neve, director, information and indicators division; and Pascal Roberge, director, program integration division.
