Our Mission and Mandate

Our Mission

As Canada's only independent, not-for-profit, commercial-free, bilingual media organization focused entirely on politics and public affairs, CPAC connects Canadians to the people and events that shape our democracy.

Our Mandate

Through our broadcast television channel, website, and social media platforms, CPAC provides unfiltered access to the complete proceedings of Canada's Parliament, complemented by in-depth coverage of key events, processes and debates that shape the development of public policy in Canada. CPAC operates in compliance with the conditions of our CRTC television broadcast license, as well as contractual agreements with the House of Commons and Senate of Canada.

Parliament, Politics and Public Affairs

At the core of CPAC's mandate is a commitment to broadcasting, livestreaming and archiving video of the complete, uninterrupted proceedings of Canada's House of Commons, Senate and televised parliamentary committees. This essential access to Parliament is complemented by CPAC's original programming that showcases the key processes and debates which inform public policy development and the operations of government—including longform coverage of news conferences, political conventions, landmark court proceedings, public inquiries and policy debates. In addition, CPAC offers a variety of programming that facilitates robust debate on important political and policy issues through timely interviews and analysis that present a diversity of views from across Canada.

Connecting Canadians to Their Democracy

CPAC is committed to ensuring that our programming is available and accessible to all Canadians. Viewers can find CPAC across Canada on our television channel, as well as on our website, cpac.ca, and on social media. As a fully bilingual broadcaster, we offer all of our television programming in both English and French. On our website, in addition to providing unparalleled live access to our signature longform coverage of Parliament and public affairs, we are proud to offer a 60,000-hour video archive that preserves decades of parliamentary and public affairs programming, making it readily accessible to Canadians on-demand, on any device—both today and for posterity.
