Burnaby North–Seymour
The riding of Burnaby North–Seymour is ground zero for the Trans-Mountain pipeline. This riding is where the pipeline has its terminal and with a second pipeline being built comes more terminals and more tanker traffic. Terry Beech, the incumbent Liberal, is campaigning as someone who doesn’t support the pipeline even though his party is responsible for having it built. Svend Robinson has returned to the political arena with the NDP and doesn’t want to see the pipeline built either and wants Canada weaned off oil and gas as soon as possible. Amita Kuttner is the Green candidate, Heather Leung the Conservative and Rocky Dong of the People’s Party of Canada round out the candidates in this hotly contested riding. CPAC’s Catherine Pope has the story from Burnaby, British Columbia.
Update: On October 4, the Conservative Party of Canada dropped Heather Leung as its candidate after a video surfaced of her making homophobic remarks.
